Practice Experience
Alex joined MDA Attorneys in January 2022. He is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa and is currently pursuing an LLM in Construction Law and Dispute Resolution at Leeds Beckett University in the United Kingdom.
Alex advises clients on both contentious and non-contentious construction and commercial matters. He has experience working with the GCC, JBCC, FIDIC and NEC suites of contracts and regularly assists clients with contract drafting, review, negotiation, administration and project support throughout the construction lifecycle. His experience extends across a range of procurement and contracting models, including EPC, design-and-construct, cost-plus and re-measurable contracts.
Alex also advises on contractual disputes and has experience supporting adjudication, arbitration and commercial litigation proceedings across South Africa and other African jurisdictions. He regularly assists with the preparation and drafting of extension of time, additional payment, variation, loss and expense, and other contractual claims.
His project experience includes providing commercial support and dispute resolution assistance on major infrastructure developments, including a fresh produce market development valued in excess of R1.75 billion, a hospital development project valued in excess of R4 billion, an industrial development in Lesotho, a data centre in Malawi, and various power generation, water and wastewater infrastructure projects across Southern Africa.
